Project SI I&DT 5521
Saint-Gobain Mondego, with collaboration of Portuguese Innovation Society, and with partnership with IAPMEI (Institute of Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation), moved forward with a project named Technological Development and Flexibility of the Process to Production of News Products of Greater Added Value. This have like principal goal implement a new enterprise strategy to increase the company competitiveness through products of greater added value supply.
The project presents a duration of 24 months – 2 February 2009 to 31 January 2011, surrounding a legible expense value of 1.863.336,26€, and the incentive received until now is equal to 326.584,44€.
The global goal of productivity increase was defined like an increase of competitiveness in 3%.
The project entitled "Technological development and flexibility of the process for manufacture new products with higher added value", conducted between February 2009 and January 2011, it is at present time at foreclosure.
After the audit in May 2014 by the IAPMEI and an external expert appointed for this purpose, where was presented the main results of the project, followed by a short visit to our facilities, the conditions are fulfilled for the favorable decision and the project being successfully closed.
In summary, we consider that this project had as main objective to improve the quality of the final product and the ability to respond to different market requirements. To this end the company proposed to carry out research into new raw materials, new oxidants and regulation of combustion in the melting process; develop new tools to create new products and, finally, using the new mold at materials, coating and components levels.
Given the objectives presented, the results achieved for the composition process were: incorporation of a new type of coal and industrial sodium nitrate; increased by 16.4% of cullet; reduction of energy consumption of the furnace in 5.52%; reduction of NOx emissions (865mg/ Nm3 in 2012) and reduced time in the color changes. At products level was been possible lighten the models; increase sales for beer brands; deliver prototypes acrylic to customers; create new products with greater customer interaction, reducing the time of development and approval; create registry of glassware tests. Finally, at molds it can be mentioned the increase in the speed of manufacture of the product and doubling, on average, the number of units per mold.
