Symington presents its first wine project outside the Douro
After five generations in Portugal, Symington Family Estates has just presented its first wines produced outside the Douro region. The family company introduced Quinta da Fonte Souto - the new wine project located in the sub-region of Portalegre, Alentejo. The property, located on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede and which has 207 hectares (42 hectares of which are vineyards), was acquired by Symington in 2017.
The range of five wines launched - which is made up of the Vinha do Souto red wine standard, Quinta da Fonte Souto and Florão, both in red and white options - will initially be marketed in Portugal, with small quantities to be made available in other markets. The objective of the Quinta da Fonte Souto project - whose claim focuses on wines with "another wander" - is to produce a distinctive range that exhibits the best of Portalegre, Alentejo and Portugal. It is a long-term project that allows walking paths and wants to place on the map of wine lovers (from Portugal and around the world) the unique terroir of this sub-region.
