Sogrape: 2008 is year of Barca Velha. Douro icon released in October
This wine no needs introduction, was not he one of the most expensive and prestigious in the country. Barca Velha, produced since 1952, born only years regarded as exceptional, which is why there are only, to date, 18 crops. After 64 years of a success story, Sogrape (which owns Casa Ferreirinha) today announced a new year for the famous label.
When making great wines, mastery in viticulture blends naturally with the art of oenology. But in the case of Barca Velha, there is another ingredient of paramount importance to decision making: the time. After eight years of an exceptional vintage in Quinta da Leda, the winemaker Luís Sottomayor believed to have reached the ideal time for the announcement of the 18th Old Barca's history, one of the most emblematic wines of Portugal. "The wines are revealed at birth, but superior wines, those who are to write and tell stories, they need to prove they deserve a place in the cellar and pass the test of time", says the winemaker Luís Sottomayor. This is the case of Barca Velha about 18,000 bottles will launch in the market in time to celebrate Christmas!
