Esporão buys Quinta do Ameal
Esporão formalized the purchase of Quinta do Ameal, a project led by Pedro Araújo and belonging to his family since the 90s.
This historic 30-hectare estate in the Lima River Valley, in the heart of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region, was “a pioneer in asserting the Loureiro grape variety and its ability to produce world-class white wines.”
With this acquisition, Esporão enriches its portfolio by offering high quality green wines. Quinta do Ameal is a reference in the region's wines and shares values with Esporão, namely, “the differentiation and high product quality, organic production methods and a complete portfolio including wine tourism”.
For Pedro Araújo, project leader to date and who will remain as part of the team, “this was an opportunity that would hardly be repeated to reconcile the notoriety and recognition of Quinta do Ameal wines, the result of intense work over 20-year-old with the fantastic potential of a producer with the strength, strategy and philosophy in tune, as is the Esporão”.
To João Roquette, CEO of Esporão, “this idea was formed with the recognition of the great quality and potential of the wines made at Quinta do Ameal by Pedro Araújo, the confidence, friendship and future vision that we were building and the ambition to make great ones. wines, with identity and sense of place, also challenging the status quo of the region. Esporão receives this legacy with the responsibility of the trust placed in it and with great enthusiasm for the future”.
